Getting started with Meshtastic

    Get a radio

    Any supported 915 MHz LoRa board works. Handhelds are great for carrying; fixed nodes want a good antenna up high.

    Flash firmware

    Use the browser-based web flasher (Chrome or Edge, over USB) to install the latest stable firmware.

    Configure

    Set the region to US, keep the LongFast preset and a hop limit of 3, then add the LCAC channel.

    Join in

    Say hello on the channel, check the map for the nearest repeater, and tell us where you are.

Tips

  • •Antenna height beats transmit power every time.
  • •Leave the hop limit at 3. More hops makes the mesh slower for everyone.
  • •Only ROUTER-role devices belong on hilltops. Most people want CLIENT.
